Pwny Bits

Steeped in symbolic association of dominance, control and the rule of man over another, the (horse) bit is a metal component used to send commands from a rider’s hands into the horse’s mouth. Pressure applied to the gums, tongue and sides of the mouth controls the horse and its performance. Pwny Bits tilts these objects and connotations, seeking to dilute the ordinary direction of control. A gesture of recreational refusal has these metallic structures wildly unfurling and reaching out for alternative, multi-directional relations between one another. The functional redundancy tenderly bites back at the assumed mastery of man over and asks how we could be with.
